I was in the supermarket with my little girl, was sleeping, in a sling, on me.
And an elderly gentleman came up to me and he said all the usual things: Boy or girl? How old is she? etc.
And then he said, “You must be a very good mum” and I said, “Well I try to be”.
And he said, “You must be because she’s sound asleep”.
And I thought it was really interesting, the perception that because she was sleeping I must, therefore, be a good mother.
Now, all babies need to sleep, so even if I was a horrendous mum, she still has to sleep at some point.
There’s really no link between how good a parent I am and the fact that my child was asleep.
But is all about perception…
And its the same in business because people will perceive you and your business in a certain way and therefore will interact and buy from you as a result of that perception.
Now I am not saying that people should “fake it ‘til they make it”, I hate that expression and I hate that term.
I think people should be real and authentic and not fake anything.
But what I am saying is to believe in yourself because if you don’t believe in yourself then no one else will.
So the perception that you portray when you believe in yourself is strong, and its positive, and it gives people a great impression of you and how you are going to perform for them.
