Sometimes we can lose sight of why we are in business…of what we ultimately want our lives to look like.
We get caught in the day to day, in all the doing, and we go forward forgetting our overall life vision…we then wake up one day and realise that we’ve built a business that does not serve our life the way we want and does not serve our family the way we want. We’ve created a monster!!!
One really good exercise that I love to do with clients…and you can do too…is to draw an organization chart of what you ultimately want your business look like in 10 years time.
So write down all the positions that you want the business to have…and do that with your life in mind.
That might be Chief Operating Officer, a person in charge of finances, operations, marketing, sales managers production managers, all those roles.
Next, create a big organization chart. If your aim is to have a big business then break down all the roles…if your aim is to have a small business then write down any support that you might need in doing that too (perhaps a VA or two)
What those roles are responsible for and leaders who will be responsible to be reporting into?
And then inside these roles, write the names of the people you have working now in your business…who is filling those roles at the moment?
If it’s just you, you are filling all those roles so your name goes in all those boxes.
If you have other people working with you as well, then they may also have multiple roles currently.
Put their names in multiple boxes but actually map out what you want your business to eventually look like.
And refer to this frequently – as things change in your business, or as you are thinking you need an extra pair of hands, check back with the org chart.
Are things still in alignment with the life you want?
Are you creating a business that supports your life?
Or one that takes away from it?
